“The Help”, which was number 2 on its first weekend, but took over the top spot for two weekends in row dropped down to second place with just $8.7 million in receipts. In the number three position was “Warrior” with just $5.6 million.

Numbers 4 and 5 were close in receipts with “The Debt” at number 4 bringing in $4.9 million and “Columbiana” with $4 million.

And that was the beginning of the fall movie season, let’s hope there are some blockbusters coming up.

Eddie Morra, played by Cooper, is a down on his luck aspiring writer. He breaks up with his girlfriend, Lindy (portrayed by Abbie Cornish) and things are looking pretty glum as he happens to run into his former brother-in-law, Vernon Gant, a known drug dealer. Vernon offers him a sample of a new nootropic drug called NZT. The drug is supposed to allow a person to access 100% of brain power, compared to the 10% or so that is typical (for years, it has been said that we only use about 10% of our brainpower, however, that is now considered to be a myth.)

Eddie is amazed at how the drug affects him. He is able to finish his novel in record time, he quits smoking almost immediately and he cleans up his apartment with energy to spare. He is able to access and remember everything and anything that he has ever seen. He decides he needs more.

He goes over to see Vernon and after he runs a short errand for Vernon, he returns to the apartment to find that Vernon has been murdered. He knows it is for the drugs. He searches the apartment and finally finds the stash of drugs along with some cash.

Eddie’s takes more of the drug and his life significantly changes for the better. He is able to master such skills as piano-playing and learning a new language within just hours to days. He meets new people and he is able to access the best parts of himself in every situation. Soon he is trading stocks, where he meets Carl Van Loon, played by Robert DeNiro.

During this time, though, his life is not without chaos. He is chased by various people for the drug and he even runs out of the drug for a short time, which leads to probably the goriest part of the film. In the meantime, he has contracted with a few laboratories to duplicate the drug so he will always have a supply.

It turns out that the drug has some mean side effects, which he learns about when he sees his ex-wife Melissa. The benefits are so great, however, that he wants to be able to continue with the drug and by the end of the movie it seems that he has succeeded.

“Limitless” is a great movie, one that should not be missed. Bradley Cooper is perfect in the part of Eddie Morra. Apparently the part of Eddie Morra was originally supposed to be played by Shia LeBeouf, but an injury made him drop out. While Shea LeBeouf is always great, this part was made for Bradley Cooper.

The film is loosely based upon an old made-for-TV movie from 1973 that was coincidentally called “Don’t be afraid of the dark” , yes, the same name. But not exactly the same story. The original movie starred Kim Darby as Sally, a young woman, who moves with her husband to an old mansion that she inherited from her grandfather. As she is renovating the old place, she discovers that an old fireplace has been boarded up and the ash door bolted shut. As she unbolts the ash door, she unleashes a haunting of scary creatures that scare her and you, the viewer also.

Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark 2011

The new movie, “Don’t be Afraid of the Dark” was written by Guillermo del Toro and Matthew Robbins. In this movie, the part of Sally is not a grown woman but a young girl. Sally is played by Bailee Madison, who has a recognizable face since she has played in such notable movies in the past as “Just go with it”, “Bridge to Terabithia” and “Conviction”.

Sally is sent by her mother to stay with her father Alex, who is an architect and his new girlfriend, Kim, who happens to be an interior designer. Alex is currently broke, but is hoping to hit the big time by landing on the cover of a well-known architecture magazine, with the mansion that he is currently living in and fixing up. Unfortunately for him, the demonic entities in the house have other plans.

Sally inadvertently releases the demonic creatures into the house and she is frightened by the hauntings, but her dad and Kim discount her admonitions of fear as her just being a scared little girl. They refuse to believe her when she tells them that the creatures love to feed on the teeth of young children. However, they soon learn.

“Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” is one of the best horror features from recent times. The Rhode Island mansion is the perfect setting for the fearful tale and Bailee Madison carries the show with her excellent performance.

The motion picture is based upon characters which started existence in the 50s inside a comic book by Belgian artist Peyo Culliford, together with the little blue people that ultimately ended up in several diverse media, which includes a Saturday morning TV run which transformed them in to a phenomenon.

It utilizes an extraordinary voice overs which features masters such as Jonathan Winters and Tom Kane in addition to some more recent talents including Anton Yelchin as well as singer Katy Perry.

Furthermore, it also has Hank Azaria as the evil wizard Gargamel crazy with harvesting the Smurfs for their ‘essence’ to become a lot more powerful.

The plot entails Papa Smurf and his awesome gang of Smurfs unintentionally endding up in New York City whilst getting away from Gargamel.

If you have kids it is a must see!

With this great showing “Fast Five” had the third highest-grossing opening weekend outside of the summer and holiday seasons, with only “Alice in Wonderland” at $116.1 million and “Passion of the Christ” with $83.8 million (huh, looks as if “Fast Five” may actually be number 2!) .

“Rio” was the number two movie for the weekend with receipts of $14,787,836.00 down 43.8% from last week.

The third highest grossing movie of the weekend “Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big happy Family” brought in $9,860,929.00 down 60.7% from last weeks highs.

“Water For Elephants”, which was an amazing novel but a disappointing finisher at the box office so far, came in at the fourth place spot with $9,342,413.00

“Prom” a new release for the week, rounded out the top five movies at the box office with totals of $4,712,638.00

“Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family” came in at just a tad lower with receipts at $25,750,000.00

The much anticipated adaptation of the great novel “Water for Elephants”, perhaps the movie with the highest expectations for the week, did not show so well as hoped for, coming in at third place with receipts of just $17,500,000.00

“Hop” the actual movie about the Easter bunny was in the fourth place spot with total receipts of $12,461,000.00

“Scream 4” rounded out the top five with receipts of $7,154.000.00

While the numbers may not seem too bad, the number one movie “Rio” brought in almost twice as much with a much more successful launch with $40,000,000.00.

“Hop” brought up the third place spot, dropping from number 1 for 2 weeks in a row bringing in total receipts of $11,167,000.00

The movie “Soul Surfer” was in the fourth place position with $7,400,000.00 and fifth place belonged to “Hanna” with box office receipts of $7,327,000.00

A small part in the movie featuring a tattoo artist was first given to Mel Gibson. However, there was somewhat of an uproar on the set, apparently many personalities were upset about this casting and in order to keep the peace among all the players, the film’s director, Todd Phillips, released Mel Gibson from the part and gave the role over to Liam Neeson.

While the actual information on who was the main complainer on the set was regarding the casting of Mel Gibson, in a later released comedy podcast, actor Zach Galifianakis mentioned that he was having a conflict and a “deep protest” on a film that he was working on. Actually, it matters not. Mel Gibson has unfortunately burned some bridges and made some enemies in the past few years with his rants. It is a sad thing as many of us enjoyed his work in many of his films. However, to some his politics have become unpalatable.

Liam Neeson then spent significant time filming the role and filming a few scenes but as the movie was edited, his role was edited out. While they would have preferred to continue with Liam Neeson in the role, at that time he was unable to come back to the set and re-film the scenes due to a scheduling conflict. Therefore the actor for the role was replaced again for the third time.

This time, an unknown and in fact rarely seen, individual was chosen for the cameo role. Nick Cassavetes, not an actor but rather a director and director of the critically acclaimed movie, “The Notebook” took over the spot on the film.

The original cast of the first “the Hangover” movie has mostly returned. The film features pretty boy, Bradley Cooper, along with funnyman Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Justin Bartha.

The movie opens up in theaters across the nation on May 16, 2011.

Mary Surratt was the owner of a boardinghouse where John Wilkes Booth and other conspirators met to plan the assassination attempt of President Abraham Lincoln just days after the end of the civil war.

Everyone who knows any history from the United States is familiar with many of the stories of the civil war and many movies have been made and books have been written about this tumultuous time in our nation’s history. The most popular movie ever made based upon gross receipts and adjusted for inflation is “Gone With the Wind” which is also a story about the Civil War and the Confederacy.

When Lincoln was assassinated, seven men and one women were charged with conspiracy. Mary Surratt was accused of the crime and she enlisted the services of a newly-minted lawyer and former soldier iand war hero in the Union army, Frederick Aiken, played by James McAvoy in the movie. Her attorney is reluctant to defend her, however, as the trial progresses he realizes that she may very well be innocent and may even be being used as a bait and hostage to capture another conspirator who happens to be her own son, and who has escaped.

The movie follows the story of her defense of the terrible crime in a military tribunal.

In a recent interview in Parade magazine, Robert Redford reflected on making historical films and stated that the reason they work, when they work, is not because of the historical significance but rather the stories behind the stories that everyone thinks they know. “The Conspirator” tells the story that no one has heard much about before, with the relationships, feelings, chaos and fear that was happening at the time.
